Locally Globally
Austin Texas is very lucky to have the water that we do. We have several water sources including the Colorado River and its Highland lakes (formed with dams) and the Edwards Aquifer. We have lots of water treatment plants around Austin that treat enough water for almost everyone in Austin. We also have groundwater that provides clean water for some areas and provides water to places like Barton Springs. That is alot of water seeing as we use alot of water and the demands for water continue to grow while the sources do not.

Water quality varies around the world. There are places where almost every single person has clean drinking water. Like Australia where 90% to 100% of the people have access to drinking water. Then there are other places like Morrocco where they have 0% to 22% availability to clean drinking water (Maps of World.) Some reasons some places have less access to clean drinking water is because they have less money to help produce clean water and have a lot of pollution in their area. "By far most of the world’s water is in the oceans, and therefore salty and not usable for most purposes without desalination [which is very expensive]. About 3 percent of the planet’s water is fresh, but most of that is in the form of snow or ice(National academy of Engineering.)"

About me
My name is Meredith Curran. I attend Austin High School and I'm in the Academy For Global Studies. We are working on a project called TGPlan which stands for Think Globally Problem Solve Locally Act Neighborly. Members of our group include Noah Schatz, Jack Dobson, Callie Erwin, Oksana Young and myself and our topic is water quality. We took action to help our community and we hope this site will tell you how you can help your community in improving your water quality.
