Take Action:
My group took action first by informing the people at my school that putting grease down your sink is bad and doesn't help with improving our water quality. Grease is bad to put down your drain beacuse the grease gets stuck in your pipes or sewers which can cause a overflow. "Sewer overflows and backups can cause health hazards, damage home interiors, and threaten the environment(West boy.)"
Then we took the next step by going to a local creek where lots of trash has been left behind. We got our group together and grabbed gloves and trash bags and went and picked up trash for a couple of hours. Now those are just two small actions but they do a lot for the enviorement. |
How to take action:
There are many ways that you can help with making the job easier for those who make our Austin Water drinkable. One way is to get a group together and go pick up trash. You can also let people around you know that littering is a terrible habit and just one piece of trash that you litter can make a bad impact on our earth. Also let people know to not put grease down their sinks. You also need to be aware of how much water you are actually using. Try to conserve as much water as you can. That means not as long showers , dont let the sink run when you are not using it, don't over water your yard or plants and dont waste the water you have out. Also one big way to help water quality is to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
